Expect More CBD Products, Edibles and Luxury Cannabis Brands in 2020

The first year of the 2020s should be an entertaining one for the cannabis curious. For example, experts in the food industry are seeing a host of emerging marijuana trends for 2020 involving CBD and cannabis-infused products.

One notable example comes from the “nonconventional” grocery trends for 2020 recently released by John Karolefski, supermarket analyst for GroceryStories.com. The 25-year veteran of the grocery industry predicts that one of the marijuana trends for 2020 will involve more CBD products on grocery store shelves.

In a release on his predictions, Karolefski wrote that “more stores will stock CBD oils and lotions” as reports continue on how CBD can combat inflammation, eczema and itching caused by psoriasis. He listed this as part of the “cannabis goes mainstream” movement that also will include more cannabis-infused foods.

Cannabis-Infused Edibles Expand in 2020

The number of cannabis-infused food options is expected to grow as more consumers decide to experience marijuana without having to smoke it.

The food products expected to get a cannabis-infused version on the market in 2020, according to the Houston Chronicle, include:

  • Sparkling waters
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Tea
  • Popcorn
  • Hot sauces
  • Snack chips

And, of course, you can expect the number of cannabis-infused chocolate bars and candy to expand as they do every year.

Cannabis Food Trends in Canada

For Americans, it’s interesting to watch what is happening in Canada, which made adult-use cannabis legal nationwide in October 2018. The country just started allowing edibles in 2019, and the market is expected to get flooded with new options in 2020. Among them are cannabis-infused ginger ale and chocolates.

Marijuana Luxury Brand Expansion

There have been a number of luxury cannabis brands on the market in recent years. But the decision by Sephora to include cannabis luxury brand Lord Jones in its skin care portfolio opened the door for luxury brands to reach a mass market. It was the first-ever CBD brand for the chain, according to the Aspen Times.

The Luxury Meets Cannabis Conference, now in its third year, is expected to be bigger than ever when it happens in New York City in May. The conference is designed to draw together retailers, media and investors with the leading luxury brands in cannabis, hemp and CBD.

Market trend expert Jed Wexler told the Aspen Times that while trends in most industries track from year-to-year, it’s more like week-to-week for cannabis. He added: “I think it’s actually going to be even bigger than the tech bubble, which is just wild. Luxury cannabis has quickly become its own lifestyle category at retail and it’s starting to be merchandised that way.”

Most luxury cannabis products are oils and lotions designed to enhance skin care and to combat inflammation, aches and pains. There are also many wellness products designed to improve both physical and emotional wellbeing.
