Is Post Malone Getting Into The Cannabis Industry?

Post Malone has decided to launch his own cannabis brand, reportedly called Shaboink. The rapper and producer will offer a product line that includes flower, pre-rolled joints and vaporizers.

The website TMZ first reported the news. According to the celebrity news site, the megastar from Texas debuted the new company in April 2019 at the Hall of Flowers cannabis trade show in Santa Rosa, Calif.

The company is scheduled to start selling products by July 4, which happens to be the rapper’s birthday.

Post Malone’s Meteoric Rise

Post Malone is the stage name of Austin Richard Post. Raised in Grapevine, Texas, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Malone rocketed to fame after the 2015 release of “White Iverson.”

His album, “Stoney,” broke Michael Jackson’s 34-year-old record for most weeks on Billboard magazine’s Top R&B and Hip-Hop Albums chart at 77 weeks (Jackson’s “Thriller” was there for 76 weeks starting in 1982).

His latest record is Beerbongs & Bentleys, released in 2018. Despite being one of the most popular young artists, he’s also come in for some stinging criticism. Most famously, music critic Jeff Weiss wrote in 2018:  “Post Malone is a Halloween rental, a removable platinum grill, a Cubic Zirconium proposal on the jumbo screen of a last-place team.”

Post Malone’s Cannabis Products

According to TMZ, Malone will sell products that contain both THC and CBD. THC is the chemical ingredient in marijuana that gets you high, while CBD is more associated with health benefits. Malone also plans to sell accessories such as papers, grinders, hats and stickers.

The company Hemper is going to manufacture packaging and pre-rolled cones for Malone’s brand.

The new business will happen as Malone is on a huge roll. He’s on a World Tour. He recently did a single for the “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” soundtrack with Swae Lee – “Sunflower” – that went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

He’s had a string of successful singles, including “Psycho” and “Rockstar.”

He created the name for his company from a word he uses to describe “the act of two people fornicating in a wild spontaneous fashion,” according to TMZ.

Long Line of Cannabis Celebrities

Malone will join a host of celebrities who have gotten into the cannabis business. They include Mike Tyson, Chelsea Handler, Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. Former athletes are also involved, including former quarterback superstar Joe Montana.

Malone takes the celebrity marijuana business into a new generation. However, he wasn’t even the only rapper showing their marijuana products at the Hall of Flowers, according to High Times.

For example, The Game, who has been in the cannabis business the past few years with his Trees By Game brand, attended the conference. He’s been very active in the cannabis industry, including the sale of a dispensary in Santa Ana for $7 million in 2017, according to High Times.
