Jimmy Buffett wants people to have the opportunity to buy more than just a cheeseburger in paradise.<\/p>\n

The legendary, Florida-based musician has entered a business deal with a company that will promote a new brand of medical marijuana called Coral Reefer. Buffett is allowing his band\u2019s name – the Coral Reefer Band – to be used by Surterra Wellness to market and sell the product in the Sunshine State.<\/p>\n

Coral Reefer Products<\/h2>\n

In a statement, Buffett said<\/a><\/u> he had long ago reached the \u201csimple common-sense conclusion that cannabis is good medicine, and should be made available to all who need it. I feel that joining with Surterra, in the medical cannabis world, is the right place for Coral Reefer products to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buffett said cannabis is getting \u201clong overdue recognition\u201d for its healing properties. He added, \u201cFinally, \u2018the time has come,\u2019 as the Walrus said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Long-Time Supporter<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s no surprise to anyone who has gone to a Buffett concert that his fans, called Parrotheads, are big supporters of legal marijuana. Buffett himself in the past has also has come out in support of cannabis becoming legal.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s made statements to that fact many times over the years, according <\/a><\/u>to the Miami Herald. He also was a vocal supporter of the amendment that voters approved in 2016 which made medical marijuana legal in Florida.<\/p>\n

The Coral Reefer line of products, which are expected to be available by the spring of 2019, also will include vape pens, lotions, edibles<\/a>, and gel caps. They will be marketed worldwide.<\/p>\n

Based in Palm Beach, Jimmy Buffett is known for songs such as \u201cMargaritaville\u201d and \u201cCheeseburger in Paradise.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Florida Connection<\/h3>\n

The Coral Reefer line will be made by Surterra Wellness, the largest medical marijuana company in Florida (although it\u2019s based in Atlanta). The company has 10 medical marijuana retail locations across the state in Pensacola, Tallahassee, Tampa, North Port, Largo, Deltona, Jacksonville, Orlando, Port Orange, and Miami Beach.<\/p>\n

The company plans to launch into other states, with those plans expected to be announced in 2019.<\/p>\n

Buffett is not the only Floridian involved with Surterra. Beau Wrigley, the former CEO of the chewing gum company that bears his name, recently joined the company\u2019s board of directors. Wrigley\u2019s investment company is based in West Palm Beach.<\/p>\n

Wrigley recently led Surterra\u2019s $65 million fundraising round. Although allowing use of his name to associate with Surterra, Buffett is not taking a stake in the company.<\/p>\n

In making the deal, Jimmy Buffett joins a long list of celebrities in the marijuana business<\/a>, including Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Whoopi Goldberg, Tommy Chong, and Melissa Etheridge. Even Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss, who says he has never used marijuana, has invested into the industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
