Researchers at the Stanford University Medical Center and the Victory Rejuvenation Center in Lake Mary, Florida, used data from 452 women. The women agreed to answer questions about marijuana and sex in an online survey.<\/p>\n
The researchers concluded that \u201cincreased frequency of marijuana use is associated with improved sexual function among female users.\u201d They added that the type of marijuana and the method of consumption did not seem to impact outcomes.<\/p>\n
Researchers Focused on Six Sex-Related Topics<\/h2>\n
The researchers noted that the impact of cannabis on sex remains \u201ca matter of debate\u201d in scientific circles. They noted that an estimated 22.2 million people use cannabis each month in the United States alone. In the U.S., there are more than 100 million people who used cannabis at some point in their life.<\/p>\n
However, the researchers also wrote that studies had not focused on what they term \u201cfemale sexual function.\u201d To determine that, they asked women questions about sex in six main topic areas: desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain.<\/p>\n
Of the women in the study, 54.7% were between the age of 30 and 49. More than 81% were in a relationship or married. The study focused on the past month of sexual activity.<\/p>\n
The More Cannabis, The Better the Sex<\/h2>\n
The women that consumed cannabis more frequently told researchers they experienced better sexual function, including better orgasms and higher levels of desire and arousal. Just using cannabis one more time per week led to higher scores in desire, arousal, orgasms and satisfaction.<\/p>\n
Further, each \u201cadditional step\u201d of cannabis use (using more per week) led to a 21% decline in the odds that women would report sexual dysfunction.<\/p>\n
The women gave nine different reasons for why the use marijuana. They include:<\/p>\n
\n- To relax and unwind<\/li>\n
- To improve mood<\/li>\n
- To help with pain<\/li>\n
- To help with sleep<\/li>\n
- To help with stress<\/li>\n
- To help with depression<\/li>\n
- Glaucoma<\/li>\n
- Nausea\/loss of appetite<\/li>\n
- Neurologic condition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
While the researchers report that scientists do not yet know why cannabis helps women enjoy sex more, it appears that it interacts with their system in such a way as to make them feel less anxious and more relaxed, creating a positive sexual experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
