But in her new book, former ABC News reporter Heather Cabot describes in detail how marijuana has made the journey from taboo topic to acceptance in the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/607962\/the-new-chardonnay-by-heather-cabot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New Chardonnay: The Unlikely Story of How Marijuana Went Mainstream<\/a>,\u201d Cabot writes about the explosive growth of the cannabis industry and the widespread acceptance of the plant by the masses. This includes Arizona, where Cabot has spent much of her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think if Arizona converts and expands its medical program into full adult use, I think there are a lot of people that are looking to get in on that because the program has matured so rapidly,\u201d Cabot said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/arts\/heather-cabot-talks-about-the-mainstreaming-of-cannabis-culture-in-her-new-book-11493169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent interview<\/a> with the Phoenix New Times. Cabot referred to the November referendum in which Arizona voters have the chance to legalize recreational marijuana.<\/p>\n<h2>Marijuana Has Moved to the Mainstream For Years<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s been signs in the past of the mainstreaming of cannabis, which was once illegal across the country and unfairly associated with much worse drugs. Those signs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Celebrities not usually associated with marijuana use, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/blog\/olivia-newton-john-cannabiss-mainstream-advocate\/\">Olivia Newton-John<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/blog\/montana-netflix-mainstreaming-of-marijuana\/\">Joe Montana<\/a>, coming out in favor of cannabis as a medicinal and wellbeing product.<\/li>\n<li>An increasing number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/blog\/marijuana-goes-mainstream\/\">television shows<\/a> incorporating marijuana use<\/li>\n<li>Politicians in increasing numbers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/blog\/mainstreaming-marijuana\/\">supporting cannabis legalization<\/a>, following voters who have indicated their support in survey after survey<\/li>\n<li>People adding cannabis to\u00a0 mainstream products <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/blog\/coffee-with-cannabis-now-mainstream\/\">such as coffee<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cabot said she foresees a day when cannabis culture will overtake wine culture. In some parts of the country, she said it is already happening. She credited a lot of the acceptance to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispensaries.com\/cbd\">CBD products<\/a> that do not have an intoxicating effect, but which people use as a wellness product.<\/p>\n<p>She said that \u201cpeople are looking for natural remedies\u201d that can help them deal with issues such as getting better sleep and battling anxiety and stress.<\/p>\n<h2>Three Markets That Have Made a Difference<\/h2>\n<p>In the book. Cabot primarily writes about three major markets that she believes made a difference in pushing cannabis into the mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>The first is Colorado, which became the first state to legalize recreational cannabis.
