In her teens, film star Gwyneth Paltrow used to make extra money as a babysitter. Now 49, the Oscar-winner is using the money made from a long, successful film career to back a new venture from a marijuana entrepreneur she used to babysit.<\/p>\n

That entrepreneur is Luke Anderson, who co-founded Cann, a cannabis-infused beverage brand. However, it apparently took a great deal of perseverance on Anderson\u2019s part.<\/p>\n

The film star initially turned him down in 2019 because she didn\u2019t feel the brand was big enough. And Paltrow knows something about big. Her Goop<\/a> brand, founded in 2008 as a weekly newsletter from Paltrow\u2019s kitchen, has grown into a $250 million media, events and eCommerce empire.<\/p>\n

However, Paltrow has since decided to back Cann, contributing to a $5 million round of seed money for the fledgling company that offers THC-infused and CBD-infused beverages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It’s a different kind of buzz \u2014 mellow, drinkable, and especially nice for sipping in the sun,” Paltrow says in an endorsement<\/a> on the Cann site.<\/p>\n

Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Other Celebrities Investing in Cann<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Paltrow joined a long list of celebrities who have invested in Cann. They include Darren Criss, Rebel Wilson, Nina Dobrev, and Kate Hudson.<\/p>\n

According to the story Anderson related<\/a> to the New York Post, Paltrow said, \u201cOh my God, you\u2019re that kid I used to babysit a lot!\u201d, when he jogged her memory about a time when they both lived on East 92nd Street in Manhattan. At the time, a 16-year-old Paltrow babysat a two-year-old Anderson.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe used to change my diapers and now she supports me in selling drugs,\u201d Anderson joked, according to the Post.<\/p>\n

Cann is using the latest round of funding to expand its manufacturing and distribution network. Because cannabis is illegal at the federal level, companies can\u2019t ship cannabis across state lines. That requires the company to set up facilities in every state where it sells products.<\/p>\n

Cann offers flavors that include lemon lavender and grapefruit rosemary. They contain 2mg of\u00a0 THC and 4 mg of CBD. Other versions carry a higher THC content, while \u201cunspiked\u201d versions contain none at all.<\/p>\n

Celebrities in the Cannabis Industry<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gwyneth Paltrow is far from alone with her decision to invest in the cannabis industry. Many celebrities have entered the industry as legalization has spread from state to state. People who got in early include Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. But the list has grown recently to include Jay Z<\/a> and Martha Stewart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Others have backed federal legalization. For example, Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman have appeared in videos for Cannabis in Common<\/a>, which seeks to convince Congress to legalize marijuana at the federal level.<\/p>\n

Famous people also helped normalize marijuana use in the first place. Even before legalization started to take off, many celebrities said they enjoyed using marijuana<\/a> both recreationally and for health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
