It’s Weed Break Wednesday! \u00a0And we’ve got a question for you. \u00a0Are beer and marijuana cousins?<\/p>\n

Think about it.<\/p>\n

Hemp or marijuana come from cannabis. \u00a0Cannabis is considered an erect herb from a family of flowering plants called cannabaceae. \u00a0Of cannabaceae, there are about 170 species. \u00a0Some of the species are trees and some belong to a group called twining herbs. \u00a0One twining herb of the cannabaceae family is called humulus. \u00a0Humulus lupulus is more commonly known as\u00a0hops. \u00a0As in the kind of hops that make beer.<\/p>\n

Interesting, right?!<\/p>\n

Beer And Marijuana<\/h2>\n

Hop, or humulus lupulus, has flower resins that, for hundreds of years, have been used in beer to help bitter the taste and also as a kind of preservative.<\/p>\n

The cannabis subspecies of hemp<\/a> is cultivated for marijuana. \u00a0It is usually cannabis sativa or indica species used in cultivating marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes.<\/p>\n

Both share, in their family tree, the same relation to cannabaceae.<\/p>\n
