With the debut this month of the Saint Jane brand, Sephora has made a huge foray into the CBD beauty market and given the cannabis curious yet another way to try CBD-infused products.

Saint Jane became available this month at 281 Sephora locations in 22 states. It’s the biggest cannabis-related brand the beauty chain has launched since introducing Lord Jones in 2018. Saint Jane offers an already popular Luxury Beauty Serum and a Luxury Body Serum.

A Belief in the Benefits of CBD

Saint Jane founder Casey Georgeson has a background in developing beauty and wine products for brands such as Marc Jacobs and Cupcake Vineyards. She decided to launch Saint Jane after becoming “highly passionate” about the potential of CBD.

“The idea for Saint Jane Beauty was born the day I learned about the extraordinary benefits of CBD for the skin,” Georgeson said on the Saint Jane website. She said she “fell in love” with the formula for the beauty serum, which the company created to encourage “balance from the skin to system.”

Saint Jane focuses on wellness and lifestyle. “Feeling good can be more profound than looking good, although these products perform more powerfully than anything else I’ve tried,” she said on the site.

Is CBD Good For The Skin?

Studies have shown that CBD works well for skin care, especially as an anti-inflammatory. Others attest to its use to battle acne, reduce aches and pains and provide a sense of calm. Many also use CBD products to combat muscle pain and cramps as well as battle the skin wrinkles that come with aging.

The presence of CBD-infused products on the market is growing. For example, CBD Skincare Co. offers body bars infused with CBD. And Healthy Roots provides consumers with many CBD wellness product choices, including tinctures, root butter, facial serum and bath bombs.

Microdosing Also On the Rise

Saint Jane also is tapping into the microdosing market, which is sometimes referred to as “low dose” or “precision dosing.” Whatever it is called, these are products with a smaller amount of THC. In the case of Saint Jane, its lip balm contains small amounts of CBD.

CBD, for those new to the term, is hemp-derived and contains little to no amounts of THC, the chemical in marijuana that causes the “high” feeling.

Microdosing also has become big in the cannabis edibles market, where people can buy products with very small amounts of THC. This is especially good for those new to trying cannabis who want to exercise caution as they try it for the first time. Typically, microdose products including cannabis-infused gummies and chocolates.

When buying CBD products, they are usually in one of three categories. CBD isolate means pure CBD. Full spectrum CBD means the product contains CBD as well as trace amounts of THC, other cannabinoids and antioxidants.
