11 Of The Most Famous Celebrities Who Smoke Marijuana

Plenty of celebrities now support marijuana legalization. But a smaller number have come out to say they regularly use cannabis. This list of famous celebrities who smoke marijuana includes some of them, including the ones who came out long before legalization happened.

Sir Patrick Stewart

The man best known as playing Capt. Jean Luc Picard in “Star Trek ” television shows and movies has said he smokes marijuana every day to help him combat the pain of arthritis. The 80-year-old actor made his comments in support of a marijuana research project announced by Oxford University.

Snoop Dogg

Anyone who knows anything about Snoop Dogg knows of his fondness for marijuana. It has always prominently in his rap lyrics. Now, it’s part of his growing business portfolio. Snoop even launched his own brand of cannabis in a partnership with Canadian company Tweed.

Jennifer Aniston

The “Friends” star said in an interview with Rolling Stone long before legalization: “I enjoy it once in a while. There’s nothing wrong with that. Everything in moderation…I wouldn’t call myself a pothead.”

Miley Cyrus

Rolling Stone apparently is the magazine of choice for celebrities who want to proclaim their use of marijuana. Cyrus told the magazine that cannabis is “the best drug on Earth.”

Rihanna

There’s openness about cannabis use, and then there’s Rihanna. She came out strong for marijuana in a 2013 interview with Elle UK: “I’ll never be a victim. That’s why I’m posting pictures of myself smoking pot, to tell the truth about myself. I’ve got so much to think about — why bring all this extra sh*t by being dishonest?”

Kirsten Dunst

Back in 2007, long before legalization, actress Kirsten Dunst said she liked to smoke weed. She noted that one of her best friends growing up was the daughter of scientist Carl Sagan, who was a supporter of marijuana. She said: “ I do like weed. I have a different outlook on marijuana than America does. My best friend Sasha’s dad was Carl Sagan, the astronomer. He was the biggest pot smoker in the world and he was a genius. I’ve never been a major smoker, but I think America’s view on weed is ridiculous. I mean, are you kidding me? If everyone smoked weed, the world would be a better place.”

Bill Maher

For proof that Maher, now 65, enjoys marijuana, simply watch just about any episode of his HBO show, “Real Time With Bill Maher.” Maher frequently mentions his use of weed and points out the hypocrisy of many who oppose legalized cannabis.

Seth Rogen

The film star and writer incorporates marijuana use into many of his movies, including one of his most famous,  “The Pineapple Express.” He’s even done a video on how to roll a joint.

Willie Nelson

Nelson ranks among the most famous of all celebrity marijuana users. He also ranks among those who have started their own cannabis brand. But perhaps most famously, he has revealed that he once smoked weed on the roof of the White House.

Matthew McConaughey

The film star has been open about his 1999 arrest at his home. At the time, he was naked and playing bongos, listening to African music with a group of (also, assumedly, naked) friends. He wrote about the incident in his autobiography, “Greenlights.”

Woody Harrelson

Part of the “Texas Trio” of marijuana advocates along with Nelson and McConaughey,  Harrelson was an early advocate for marijuana use. He is a member of the advisory board for the cannabis advocacy group, NORML.
